Stripes

I found yet another sweater pattern that I really, really like, and I, who still have not succeeded with a well fitting sweater yet. But I am determined to go on until I learn how! I want to walk around in my own home knitted sweaters, with pride. 

I love the look of this, the colours and the loose fitting, long and cosy. Definitely something for the fall, and we all know that we have to start knitting now if we want it done when the cold starts to come creeping in. Though I wanted to try something really bulky next, so this will have to wait I think. 

Its "Dressy Sweater" from Pickles, I have just discovered their store and it looks like they have very nice stuff, and also I consider Norway very close when it comes to postage, other coveted yarn stores are usually located in England or America.

I so wanted to be apart of this, but as my magazine subscription to "Simply Knitting" , where I found the information, comes TWO weeks after the release in England, there were only plain squares left and I  didn't think it was worth it then, with the yarn and postage. But still it is a great idea and performance.

Pattern thinking

I think I have thought out my first knitting pattern, totally by chance! I happened to stumble on Cherry Tree Hill's website and saw that they were calling for patterns for there new line of self striping hand painted sock yarn, I was a bit intrigued, but thought that I wouldn't do it, manly because if I order the yarn it will probably take about two weeks for it to get here from America and then I'd have to try it out and perfect the pattern and then send it back, and by that time they have probably already got the five patters they were asking for. But would this stop my mind? No! In the middle of the night the idea just came to me. I think it is formed in a way that differ a bit from other things that will be submitted and that might be in my favour. Anyway the problems still remain, even if I spent hours on the internet searching for another suitable yarn a bit closer to home, without success, but I will somehow try to realise the pattern and if I cant send it in, I might be able to publish it on Ravelry instead.

Första doppet i år!

Can you believe that this was just a few months ago, today we went swimming for the first time this year. The inaguration of the lake. It was lovely, warm and sweet, well warm after a while, but perfectly acceptable and enjoyable swimming temperature for Sweden. Icky bottom though. I just love swimming, it feels right somehow, all my childhood I spent hours in the water while my friends stood with blue lips shivering and begging me to get up. Funnily enough I get warmer form a cold bath, and I am always so cold otherwise. 

We also saw an ambulance helicopter land just a few hundred meters from our house, when I see something like that I always become aware of that this is the worst day of someones life, but it also gives a sort of comfort, it's a long drive to the hospital and it would take quite a while for an ambulance to get here, so it is nice to know that a helicopter is a possibility if it is really necessary.

Peacocks

Finally something was made with the "too beautiful for its own good" yarn, Cherry Tree Hill Super-sock Merino in the colourway Peacock. Im happy with these, I like a short sock, and on this one the lace is folded over with a rib underneath, so most of the yarn comes to good use and they fit really well. The pattern zigzag anklets from the book "Knitting socks with hand painted yarn" did not work very well for my foot and I had to do a lot of adjustments and do overs. The turned out great anyway.

Sewing horror

I am really not supposed to sew, its like the universe is trying to tell my something. I have several big boxes of lovely fabric, and I could really use a nice summer skirt, how hard can it really be to make a wrap around skirt? The answer is: Really really hard! It is too wide at the hemline, it does not really fit my waste nicely and not my hips ether by the way, and the front corner is doing something funny. Not very fun at all! And it took me the whole day! I can knit without trouble, strange increases, decreases and patters, silversmithing, sure, some fire and teeny tiny details, no problem at all, but I am apparently not ment to sew at all. Even bread baking and gardening is easier.
