Shetland Humbug

More yarn! I made this really thin, so thin that it broke a few times during the plying, but still I learnt a lot. It is Shetland Humbug.
Available for purchase at my Etsy Shop.

Chistening

Today is the day for Lily's christening!
I was so happy and honoured when her parents asked me if I wanted to make her christening gown. I found a pattern I liked very much for its simplicity and I modified it to be more suitable as a christening gown. It is knitted in Spud and Chloe's Sweater yarn which is a fairly thick yarn made from 55% wool and 45% cotton.
I wish Lily and her family a very happy day!

Niddy noddy

Of course I could not wait, and ordered more wool. This is hand painted BFL from Spinspiration, I love this colour, it is quite mild with lots of white in it. And after spinning my first few balls of yarn I saw the necessity of a niddy noddy (or härvträ på Svenska) to easily make pretty and orderly skeins.

Toes

I made these socks with toes for my niece's birhtday.
Grattis på födelsedagen, Cornelia!
I mixed two different drops patterns I used this for the bulk of the sock, because I liked the ribbing down the back and heal, and then I used this pattern for the toes. I used Regias Flusi "Das Socken Monster" yarn, lovely name, lovely yarn, lovely colours. These came out so cute, I think I might do a pair for me too. :)

White corriedale

My second try at spinning, and it is already going a lot better. Much smoother then the first try, still some bumps and thick and thin parts but, over all I am pretty happy with my progress. There was also some single left over in one of the balls and I made a nice little bit of single ply out of that. The coloured bits are just the thread I happened to have at hand when I tied the skein together.
I seem to have a preference for two ply, it seems a bit like cheating doing single ply, but I suspect it is a phase and I will grow out of it and have a singles phase after that. Then maybe Ill have a four ply phase! :)

Spinning

Do I need yet another hobby that I cant make any money from? I sure do! I started spinning on a spindle. It is quite addictive, and it is so much fun seeing the fluff turn into you very own yarn. I took the sensible route and purchased a start kit form Spinspiration, so that I could try it out and see if I liked it before I invest in a spinning wheel.
This is the top whorled spindle that came with the start kit, it is surprisingly well balanced and spins a long time, but it is a bit small and cant handle too much yarn.

And this, have you ever seen anything so beautiful! This is my very first home spun yarn! It is 50 grams of "Gotlands" wool. I am so proud, but as you can see, my second try, the white yarn on the spindle is already looking much better, smoother and quite even. And that is 50 grams of Corriedale. I still have 50 grams of white and brown Shetland humbug to try too.

Hello I am back!

I am back again. TaDa!! :)
I went missing due to psychological problems, seriously, starting antidepressants mess you up, but I am slowly getting better now. Well, more about that another time perhaps.

The reason I wanted to post again now, is that I got this beautiful "Magic Yarn Ball" in the mail. I entered a swap just for europeans, which makes posting so much easier. I was paired up with a wonderful woman in the south of England and she sent me this. I also sent her a ball of course. It was almost as much fun putting one together as getting one, and almost as tiring for the arms to wrap one as it was unwrapping it. We had a 20 € budget.

First I found the lovely purple, pink ball with a little sheep greeting me, chocolates (all gone) and a little note. Inside the ball were more goodies: Stitch holders, lavender wipes, a magic soap (good for almost everything), a cute flower button, a bookmark, rainbow stitch markers and almost the best thing of all a hank of hand spun beautiful blue yarn. And all of this was wrapped in Noro Kureyon in fabulous bright colours. I adore Noro. Thank you Madeline!!
