Quilting

I don't just make jewellery and knit and spin (and read and play xbox and sleep...) I love to quilt too.
I have started a self inflicted tradition; I make a little quilt for the babies in my closest family. This one is for Lily, who is my cousins daughter. It was supposed to be finished ages ago, but finally I sat down and did all the little patches.
The pattern is a "drunkards path" probably because there is not so many straight lines. ;) I used our grandmother Ingas old fabrics, she passed away a few years ago and is very much missed, I think she would like the fabrics to be reused in this way for her grand-grand daughter. Inga loved green (so do I) and I have lots of green fabrics from her, and one yellow, I thought that would suit little Lily nicely, but I aded some green accents too. The little blanket is quilted on a sewing machine around the  circles and three quarter circles.

Lily looks like she likes it. :) Little cutie!

Christmas market

Don't forget to come and do some christmas shopping at Jungfrusunds Christmas Market! I am selling my yarns and some knitted products. This is a really idyllic place just outside Stockholm that not many people know about. To ad to the cosines you can take the car ferry at Slagsta south of Stockholm and make your way there over the water.
Here is the Facebook event.

Welcome everyone!

Painting

Did I tell you we painted almost the whole ground floor? I am very happy with the result, I love colour. And painting is so much fun, there is just that pesky other stuff surrounding it, moving and covering the furniture, tejping all the mouldings, windows and electric sockets. But when it is done, everything is smooth, even and just the colour I wanted.

Presenting post nr 200!

I cant imagine what I have written 200 posts about?!

Well, anyway, the parcel form the latest swap has arrived. This time it was from Magda in Poland.

This green blob was the first thing that greeted me after removing the very securely attached bubble wrap. (Someone who loves tejp as much as me)

After unwrapping. The package contained:
  • The lovely green yarn that greeted me, 200 g, 100% wool and quite soft.
  • Auraucania Ranco Multi in a gorgeous variegated blue.
  • A little tin with soft gingerbreads covered in chocolate.
  • A bigger package of another sort of gingerbread, this one seems to have some jelly in the middle.
  • A fridge magnet of Torun, Magdas home town.
  • A beautiful hand made card, with little swirly paper flowers on.
  • Some marshmallow like candy, all gone. :)
  • And some tea bags.
Thank you so much Magda!

Snow Globe

Make your own snow globe! At "365 saker du kan slöjda" (365 things to craft), there is instructions to make your very own snow globe! What a personal christmas present that would make, who would not want one of these.

You just need a jar, some fancy glitter, a little creature to live inside, glycerol and superglue. Glue the creature to the lid, pour in water, the glitter and a smidge of glycerol, screw the lid on the jar and tada!

I  made one for my mom when I was younger. It was an old honey jar and it had white glitter and an angel inside.

Haiku week: Day four - Winter Wonderland

I woke up to this today (Wednesday), frost and fog all over the place. I hurried to find the camera to take some pictures before it went away. Interestingly enough it never went away, the fog and frost stayed all day, and it is getting worse and worse as night approaches. I would say; I cant see the mailbox, but I don't have one, so I say; I cant see the trashcan.

I wont go to bed
I think clearly at night, yawns
keep me company

Times are changing

It was time for a change. Tada!!
I made the layout lighter and I let in some air.
Take a deep breath and feel the freedom.

Haiku week: Day three - Seriousness

Let it all out, good
I can cry at this dose, more
makes me dry inside

Haiku week: Day two - Long-Johns

I am knitting my self a pair of woollen, stripy and crazy long-johns. Långkalsonger för svenskarna. Last year I knitted a pair of leg-warmers, and I can tell you that my thighs were very jealous of my calves. So this year I am determined not to freeze! This is a project of endurance.

Beautiful frost and
ice, among winters delights
But my arse gets cold!

Haiku week: Day one

Inspired by Yarn Harlot and her "casting off" Haiku writers, I have decided that this week is Haiku week. I will attempt to write one Haiku every day this week, about my day or anything that might inspire me. Remember I am dyslectic so give me some slack regarding spelling and syllables and such. I hope you join me and write a Haiku in the comments or on your blog, please let me know if you wrote one on your blog, I would love to read it.
More culture for everyone!

Knitting cast offs was
the inspiration, culture
is necessary!

Denise

I bought a new set of interchangeable needles. I think that interchangeable needles are the greatest thing, you always have the needles you want with the right length cord, easy.
I already have a set of Knit Picks, and I know everyone loves them, but I really hate them! :( I know, they are fabulous to knit with and the tips are really sharp. But I hate the case, it is always a total mess, I hate the way they screw together (and unscrew) and several of mine has broken, I also keep loosing those little keys.
My all time favourite needles are Addi Lace but the interchangeables are really expensive and does only have eight needle sizes, and the case did not look that splendid either.
When I saw the Denise sets case I was really interested, a nice compact "book" where all the needles and cables have their own place, lovely. So I bought a set, I bough the pink set, partly because it is nice to support breast cancer research and partly because it is pink. :) The tips are a bit blunt but of a nice, warm and a bit bendy material. The cords are surprisingly soft and bendy, they are thick so I was a bit scared they would be difficult to knit magic loop with, but I don't think that will be a problem at all. And the clicking, fastening the needles to the cords with a click is just wonderful, you have to have a strong grip but when it is in it stays there.
I am very happy with my new needles! They are wonderful to knit with.
Anyone wanna buy a set of Knit Picks cheap? :)

Knitting Haiku

Do not miss the Haiku on casting of at Yarn Harlots blog. Truly wonderful! Made my day, eh, night.

A little trivia on Haiku:
  • Haiku is one of the most important forms of traditional japanese poetry.
  • A haiku consist of three lines, with 5 syllable in the first, 7 in the second and 5 in the last.
  • The poem should contain a "cutting" separating the text in two, to a degree, independent parts.
  • A seasonal word must be present, to indicate in which season the haiku is set. For example cherry blossom for spring and snow for winter.

Green frog,
Is your body also
freshly painted?

Clouds appear
and bring to men a chance to rest
from looking at the moon

The morning paper
harbinger of good and ill
... I step over it

Bind off loosely, or
your big head will not fit through
the small neck opening.

My own first try inspired by my wardrobe:

I buy pink socks often
colour makes my feet happy,
walking, happy feet.

BFL

Now there is some Blue Faced Leicester in the store too. It is very pleasant to spin and I can make it quite a bit thinner. It is not as soft as the merino but fluffy, sturdy and it has a bit of a shine to it.

A Spinners Best Friend!

A hot tip for all spinners! I have the problem of the spinning wheel slowly working its way further and further away from me as I spin. I tried to give it some of those furniture "paws" but that did not make any difference, maybe it reduced the scuffing when I drew the wheel back again but nothing else. Then I tried to kind of hold on to it with my toes while I was paddling, that did definitely not work, I almost go a cramp and it still moved away. But now the revelation is here: Rubber feet! I found these at the hardware store (and when I say I, I mean Ola) and you attach them with a little screw, so no pesky glue that only collects dust. I think they are for stopping a door banging in to things originally, but now, a spinners best friend!

Hair cut

I went to get my hair cut! And for you who know me, you know that that is a BIG DEAL. And now it is short, by my standards anyway, which means it is still long, but way shorter than it was, and it is lovely, all the scrappy ends are gone! Yay! The person who cut it said I should have it cut every 2 to 3 months, how many months are I overdue then if the last time was august..... 2007.
